Can it be spring already? Gettin' real tired of this winter bullshit.  Although it's been somewhat nice this past week, I'm ready for summer now that Panama has given me a taste of flip-flop weather.

Cheating:  tan maintenance.  Now that I have that golden glow, I need to hold on to this for as long as humanly possible. Enter: self tanners.

I keep a supply on hand for face and body:
Usually tanners have a weird smell but of all the ones I've tried (and there have been a lot), these two are the least offensive.  I really like the Clarins serum because you can build the colour; just add a drop or two with your daily moisturizer and apply to your face which also helps combat dryness from the DHA (tanning agent).

Reading:

I've also read some great books lately, this one was awesome:

Loving:  my Vitamin C serum and new skin routine - looking at this pic, I'd say it's working (excuse the excessive sweating; it was 34C and hot as fuck in Panama).

Drinking:  I try and support local wineries and Inniskillin makes a really good Riesling that doesn't break the bank.

Looking forward to:  NYC gals trip.  I'm heading to the big apple in May with 4 of my girlfriends and I can't wait. It's been years since my last gals trip and we plan to take in everything NY has to offer - eats, bars, ship, touristy things. I also plan to train at one of the Muay Thai gyms, meet up with a very good friend of mine who lives there. I miss NY!

Watching:  I get normal cable TV for free which includes all the specialty channels (showcase, HBO, FX etc) but I mostly watch stuff on Netflix.  These two are especially good:

Researching: my next tattoo. It takes me years to get tats because it takes me a long time to decide on the design.  My last tattoo took me 7 years actually get.  Two years ago, I decided that I was going to get something that reflects my love for muay thai and I'm about 95% finished with the design.  I'm aiming to get this on me by summer.

Recently bought:  The Ordinary argan oil.  My regular beloved argan oil is $27 but for $6.80, you can't really argue with that price.

Eating:  vacation detox means getting back to healthy eating and this salad has made its appearance on more than one occasion.  This salad has everything you need to keep you satiated for hours/give you plenty of energy - protein (baked chicken/chick peas), healthy fats (avocado), greens (chopped lettuce) and healthy veggies (cucumbers, peppers).

Ingredients
  • 3 cups chickpeas, cooked (1 cup dried chickpeas yields 3 cups cooked chickpeas)
  • cherry tomatoes, halved
  • chopped lettuce of your choice
  • greek feta
  • cucumber, cubed
  • orange pepper, cubed
  • 1 avocado, cubed
  • baked chicken, cubed.
Dressing
  • 2tbsp olive oil
  • 3tbsp fresh lemon juice
  • salt/pepper to taste
  • 1tsp dried oregano
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2tbsp red onion, minced
  • mix everything in a bowl, let sit (covered) in fridge for about 30mins before adding to salad.
Toss in any vegetable you want; next time I'm going to add fresh mango and pineapple for a yummy summer salad.

Also eating - Korean Beef Bowl served over quinoa because I don't eat rice (grains) and I'm too lazy to make cauliflower rice. This is such an easy and fast recipe - ready in 15mins!

Trying:  this new mascara.

Remember that crazy eyelash obsession I had back in December? yeah, it's still with me.  My lashes have grown ridiculously long that I had to trim a few. Yes, you read that right - I had to use my eyebrow kit and trim a few lashes that were looonnngg.

I've also finally discovered the difference between waterproof and smudge-proof mascara:  those with oily lids (like me, due to face products) tend to wind up with raccoon eyes because the oil seeps towards your lashes and moves your mascara all around your lower eye or lid.  This is where you need smudge proof mascara, not waterproof mascara (which protects against tears/water/sweat etc).  My Maybelline waterproof mascara is great for sweaty workouts and holding a curl but when I wasn't working out and used it, I had raccoon eyes at work and that's never a good look.  After much research, I decided to go with Loreal Double Extend mascara which is actually a tube mascara (when it dries, it forms 'tubes' around your lashes).  I'm wearing this as we speak as a test drive before I head into the office tomorrow so an honest review will be coming up shortly.

  3. Mascara is my make-up weakness, so I'll have to try it out. And I'm saving that chickpea recipe - I think the kid may actually eat it too!

  4. That salad sounds delicious.
I have one tattoo and I love it but I know I want another one. I also think I know what I want, but I haven't finished thinking about it so it's still on the "soon" list. Lol. I totally get it.

  5. Ah, I did not know the difference between smudge-proof and waterproof mascara and that makes sense. My problem is similar - more oil-based than water based. And that salad looks amazing! So yummy and good for you!

  6. I got chick peas this weekend at the store to make your recipe but forgot the damn avocado. Need the avocado! I cant remember if I have tried that mascara or not? Smudgeproof is what I always have to go for. I love Loreal so I will pick it up next time.
