Back in the saddle again (but with work)

I've rejoined the workforce yall and guess what? it still sucks.  Don't get me wrong - I love what I do but I just wish I didn't have to drive all the way to the office to do it.  I actually have it pretty good - I work from home twice a week at minimum but when your daily routine goes from surfing/napping/reading/lounging/wearing sweats all day to having to actually put on real clothes, talk to people and think, it's a pretty hard transition.  Why doesn't anyone feel sorry for me.

Monday was my first day...but I haven't been in the office yet because my laptop wasn't ready until yesterday and today is snowmageddon so I can say that this work week has already started off right by me not being there.

To prepare for reentry into the workforce, I spent all last week doing NOTHING - no chores, no cleaning, no tidying; nothing but reading and lounging and napping whenever the fuck I wanted since those days are no more.

I also broke my spending freeze to make myself feel better by buying this.
I never wear mascara (or much eye makeup) but with my new longer lashes (thanks to this serum), I thought I'd try and look like less of a hag and put some effort into my appearance when I do go into the office.  Besides, you can't argue with $5.96.  For that price, it was practically free.

I've also been thinking about incorporating a Vitamin C serum into my skin routine.  Vit C isn't a new thing but should be part of everyone's arsenal since it helps with collagen production and protects from free radicals; all which helps to slow the aging process.  I've seen great reviews about Vit C in general so if it makes my skin plump and firm and keeps those wrinkles at bay, I can totally get behind that.

The most coveted Vit C serum on the market is SkinCeuticals.  Due to their patented formula that slows the oxidation process (VitC is a highly unstable compound), it's one that, according to the numerous reviews I've read, results in the least amount of breakouts/skin irritation.  But goddamn, the price tag -- $100 (10% C) or $180 (20% C) for a 1oz bottle!  ain't nobody got time for that price so my cheap chinawoman ways began hunting for a close dupe and I found this one by Timeless.

Of the non-SkinCeutical Vit C serums I've researched, this one got the best reviews.  It retails for $35.99CAD and while the price is pretty good, I whined about it for days because it's not part of my "spending freeze exception list".  I think my husband got sick of my whining because handed me a $50 Visa prepaid card and said "can you use this to get your serum?".  HE'S A KEEPER Y'ALL.  That card even had enough for me to pay the extra $6 for 2day shipping, holla!  Thursday Feb 8 is when this arrives and I turn back the time on aging.

An honest product review for the above two items will be coming up in the next few weeks.

So now I must dig through my closet and find my (work) clothes.  After months of being in workout gear or sweats, I have to actually wear real clothes. I have to start doing lunch prep again.  I have to get my work bag together (if I can even find it) and start a whole new routine.  I'm telling you; this Monday to Friday work is some bullshit.

At least I arranged my schedule so that I work from home on Mondays and Fridays; maybe Wednesdays, too......so really, I don't have anything to complain about

  1. I was just telling a couple of my friends that I need to get serious about a 5 year plan so I can switch to a career that allows me to work from home at least some of the time. After 10 years of teaching I'll be out. Also, work clothes are the worst! I was so happy that when I opened my email this morning they had sent out an email saying we could wear jeans & a t-shirt today. You don't have to tell me twice!

  2. My boss is stuck in old-school thinking -- if he has to be at work, we all have to be at work. But if I'm on a computer all day and don't deal with the public, why is work-at-home not an option?!? But then I think about how unproductive I would be - run a load of laundry, walk the dogs, oh look! A book I've been looking for!, etc.

  3. Good luck going back to work! It's always so hard going back. Maybe it's just me cause I hate my job. I'm so tired of the BS and not being properly compensated for the work I'm required to do.

  4. Working Monday-Friday really is some bullshit. And wearing real pants is some shit too. At least you got to avoid the office for a few more days! Good to know that mascara is decent for the price! I tend to go Loreal when I grab a drugstore brand.

  6. Work clothes are the worst and we're even pretty lucky these days. We don't have to wear panty hose - thank god! I normally don't wear mascara either because why emphasis runty eyelashes? :D Also I suck at applying it with looking like hooker after a 3-day bender. :D Here's hoping work treats you with kindness!

  7. ugh. I hate going back after 2-3 days... on the weekend... so... I can't imagine. Though I am 100% jealous that you got to take that much time off to begin with. Good luck finding your clothes and bag... and you know, motivation to not hate work. lol XO - Alexandra

  10. I would love to know who came up with the Monday-Friday work schedule. Why do we work WAY more than we live?! Boooo to pulling back out the real clothes. I need to do the same as I haven't had a dress code in yearssss, and start a new position next week that's a business casual environment.

  13. If I could find a job that I could work from home at least once a week I would be so giddy! As it is, I deal with too many people face to face and I am over it. Maybe one day! Good luck integrating back into the office!
